Send conversions to Google Ads
Summary
Section titled “Summary”KonversAI will send a conversion to Google Ads every time a visitor verifies their contact details, submits a form, or books an appointment in the chat. Google Ads counts the conversion for the ad click that brought the visitor, and can optimise bids toward it.
You set this up on the Conversion tracking screen in the KonversAI console, under Settings. You connect your Google Ads account once under Where signals are sent, by signing in with Google, then type in the table What to send where which Google Ads conversion action each KonversAI event counts as.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”You need a role with permission to view and change workspace settings, and conversion tracking must be switched on for your workspace. Contact KonversAI support to switch it on. You also need a Google account that can manage the Google Ads account.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”Conversion tracking is switched off for every workspace until you ask for it. The Conversion tracking item does not appear under Settings until KonversAI enables it. Google Ads is also enabled separately. Contact support to have both switched on.
You need two values from Google Ads:
- The Customer ID of the Google Ads account that receives the conversions. It has ten digits and shows at the top right of Google Ads. Type it without dashes. If you reach the account through a manager account, you also need the manager account’s ID.
- The numeric ID of each conversion action you send to. The conversion action must import conversions from clicks. KonversAI cannot send to other kinds of conversion action.
The chat widget on your website must collect ad click IDs. In the KonversAI console, open Settings, then Widget, then the chat tab, expand Conversion tracking and tick Capture ad click IDs. KonversAI reads click IDs only from visitors who granted marketing consent.
- In Google Ads, create a conversion action that imports conversions from clicks, one for each kind of lead you want to count.
- Open each conversion action in Google Ads and copy its numeric ID.
- In the KonversAI console, open Settings, then Conversion tracking.
- Under Where signals are sent, select Connect Google Ads.
- In Name, type a label for this connection.
- In Customer ID, type the ten-digit customer ID, without dashes.
- In Manager account ID, type the manager account’s ID only if you reach this account through a manager account.
- In Currency, type the three-letter currency code for conversion values,
such as
NOK. - Select Save and connect with Google Ads. Google asks you to sign in with a Google account that can manage the Google Ads account.
- On Google’s consent screen, leave access to your Google Ads data ticked, as well as your email address. Without the Google Ads permission, KonversAI cannot send conversions, and you return to KonversAI with a message that access was not granted.
- Back on the Conversion tracking screen, KonversAI confirms that the connection is connected. The card shows Connected as with the email address of the Google account, and the connection is switched off.
- In What to send where, find the column for your Google Ads connection. In the row Contact verified, Lead submitted or Appointment booked, type the numeric ID of the conversion action it counts as. The message “Enter the conversion action’s numeric ID.” means the cell holds something else, such as the conversion action’s name.
- Type what each conversion is worth to you in the value field under the ID.
- Select Test on the connection card. KonversAI checks a sample conversion for each conversion action ID in the column, without recording it. The test fails until at least one row has a conversion action ID.
- On the connection card, select Switch on. KonversAI sends nothing to Google Ads until you do this.
Which KonversAI events can I send to Google Ads?
Section titled “Which KonversAI events can I send to Google Ads?”The table What to send where on the Conversion tracking screen has one row for each event. Each event is sent at most once per conversation.
- Conversation started: a visitor starts a chat.
- Contact verified: a visitor verifies an email address or phone number with a code.
- Lead submitted: a form in the chat is completed.
- Appointment booked: a booking is confirmed. A tentative hold does not count.
- Handed over to a person: the conversation is handed to a human agent.
Each row shows how often the event was recorded in the last 30 days. KonversAI counts an event only while something receives it, so a row that nothing receives shows 0.
Which events should Google Ads bid on?
Section titled “Which events should Google Ads bid on?”Bid on the lead events: Contact verified, Lead submitted and Appointment booked. Treat Conversation started and Handed over to a person as low intent. If you send one of them, set its conversion action to secondary in Google Ads, so it is reported but not bid on. The cell reminds you: “Bidding on this event trains the platform toward low-intent clicks.”
Why is the conversion value 1, and should I change it?
Section titled “Why is the conversion value 1, and should I change it?”KonversAI marks a value of 1 that nobody has changed: “Placeholder: set what this is worth to you.” Google Ads bids on value, so it treats every conversion as worth 1 until you change it. Type what a lead or a booking is worth to your business in the value field of the cell in What to send where. To keep 1 as the real value, type 1 again.
Will Google Ads count the same lead twice?
Section titled “Will Google Ads count the same lead twice?”It can. When two or more lead rows go to one Google Ads connection, the column warns: “More than one lead event goes here.” A visitor who verifies an email address and then submits a form sends two conversions. Make only one of them a primary conversion action. If a Google tag on your website, or a Google Analytics 4 key event imported into Google Ads, also records the same lead, Google Ads counts it again: record each lead in one place only. Every ad platform you connect also claims the same lead for its own ad, so the totals across platforms add up to more leads than you had.
Why are fewer conversions showing in Google Ads than in KonversAI?
Section titled “Why are fewer conversions showing in Google Ads than in KonversAI?”KonversAI sends a conversion to Google Ads only when the visitor granted marketing consent on your website, and only when KonversAI has a Google Ads click ID or a verified email address or phone number to match the visitor on. Email addresses and phone numbers are hashed before they leave KonversAI. KonversAI tells Google Ads separately whether the visitor allowed ad personalisation. Marketing consent alone does not allow it: KonversAI counts ad personalisation as allowed only when your website says so explicitly. On the connection card, select Show recent deliveries. Each conversion that was not sent says why, such as No marketing consent.
What does “Needs reconnecting” mean on my Google Ads connection?
Section titled “What does “Needs reconnecting” mean on my Google Ads connection?”Google Ads rejected the connection, often because the Google account that connected it lost access or removed KonversAI’s permission. KonversAI sends nothing until you reconnect, and conversions in the meantime are not sent later. Under Show recent deliveries, those conversions say Connection needs to be reconnected. Select Reconnect on the connection card and sign in with a Google account that can manage the Google Ads account.
How do I disconnect Google Ads from KonversAI?
Section titled “How do I disconnect Google Ads from KonversAI?”On the Conversion tracking screen, select Delete on the Google Ads connection card. KonversAI deletes the connection with its conversion action IDs and delivery history, and deletes the access it stored for that connection. Other Google Ads connections that use the same Google account keep working. To remove KonversAI’s access from your Google account entirely, go to myaccount.google.com, open Security, then Third-party access. To pause sending without disconnecting, select Switch off instead.
What does “Access was not granted” mean when I connect Google Ads?
Section titled “What does “Access was not granted” mean when I connect Google Ads?”You came back from Google without giving KonversAI access to your Google Ads data, often because the Google Ads permission was unticked on Google’s consent screen. Nothing changed. Select Connect with Google Ads on the connection card, and on the consent screen allow access to your Google Ads data as well as your email address.
